R&D Director

Apex Life Sciences is looking for an R&D Director for a large Medical company in Boone, IA!


The Director of Research and Antigen Production position provides overall direction for all activities related to the Research and Antigen Production Departments at both locations.? The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of the highest quality antigen production and research planning as it relates to a variety of other components of this line of production development. In addition, the Director works closely with the Sr. Vice President of Business Development to develop research projects that will ensure NTB-A remains a leader in Polyclonal Antisera manufacturing and sales.? Recognizes and agrees to areas for improving the efficiency of manpower, materials and equipment. All duties are performed either personally or through the coordination of location R&D Managers. This position works closely with the General Manager (GM), to ensure achievement of corporate goals and objectives. All duties are performed in compliance with ISO standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties may be assigned.


Assists the GM, and corporate officials in the development, formulation, and implementation of long and short-range antigen production planning, policies, programs and objectives.? Effectively communicates those plans to all members of Research & Development.????????


Directs the programs related to Chromatography, Separation Technology and Adsorption Technology and advise on all contamination removal columns.


Expands the annual antigen production and research plans with specific goals and objectives, and monitors implementation of these plans in a manner consistent with established antigen purification procedures and techniques as HPLC, and equipment such as Bio-Rad, AKTA, etc.


Collaborates, as needed, with Sr. VP of Business Development in developing research projects and technology enhancements that ensure the company's place in the industry by establishing procedures for maintaining high standards of R&D operations.


Guarantee that antigens meet the expected timeline, in anticipated volume and conform to established company requirements.


Develops and implements processes to improve the working environment and ensure that all antigen production, adsorption, and validation techniques of columns, and activities are carried out in a safe manner.


Ensures standards for antigen quality and performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize production.


Together with GM, oversees the effectiveness of departmental activities of both R&D Departments.


Authorizes decision making responsibilities to others as appropriate.


Prepares administrative reports and information for GM and maintains the highest level of confidentiality.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position oversees the R&D Department Managers in the CA and Iowa Research and Development Departments and is responsible for demonstrating leadership of the employees within these groups.? It carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A valid Driver?s License and successful passing of a background check is required in this position. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: PH. D. degree or equivalent in Immunology, Biology, or Chemistry; and eight to twelve years plus proven experience in R&D management, preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related industry. A minimum of 7 years? of demonstrated experience in Chromatography, Bio Processing and managing a significant segment of a research & development in a sizable company, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.? Offers leadership in developing, improving, and implementing corporate policies and procedures in conjunction with Divisional Directors.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modem algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.


REASONING ABILITY: Well developed problem-solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing activities and practices.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:? This position requires willingness to travel regularly domestically and occasionally internationally.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
